  • Security Fence– A security fence is much like a privacy fence. You want to be able to keep people out of your yard and off your property. One of the things you will want to consider to ensure if you’re thinking of a security fence is to make sure it is difficult for someone to climb. Other factors would be smooth sides with no foot holds, and the tops to be spiked, making it difficult for anyone to climb over.
  • Safety Fence– A safety fence is meant for keep the occupants and pets inside safe, and to keep other dangers like wildlife, outside.  One of the things to consider when doing a safety fence, is if you would like to have visibility throughout the fence. Especially if the safety fence is going around a pool, or for a dog run area. You want to be able to have visibility coming into the fenced area, as well as being able to see out from it, too.
  • Decorative Fence– Have you always dreamt of a classic white picket fence around your home? That would be a great example of what a decorative fence would be made of. What is nice about decorative fences, is they can add such a homey feeling to your property. It is a good rule of thumb to keep decorative fences shorter without an obtrusive styling.

Other Things to Consider

Before committing to having any fence project beginning on your yard, you need to also consider some of the other following points.

  • Property Lines– You want to verify where exactly your property lines are located to avoid any issues of crossing them, and having to redo a fence row because it was not built on your land.
  • Your Neighbors– Let your neighbors know what your plans are, as they are still your plans, but it may affect their yard, as well as yours. If they currently don’t have a fence, they may want to consider doing one at the same time. Any fence that is built between your yard and a neighbor’s yard can be a shared expense, which would be an opportunity for you both to save extra money.

After exposure to the wind, rain, snow, and elements for several years, your fence can take a real beating. Bronco Fence is one of the top fencing companies in Davis County and surrounding areas. To prevent your fence from being destroyed, take some steps ahead of time when you hear a large windstorm is expected.

Trim Trees Near the Fenceline

A major reason fences fall down is related to large tree branches that crashes into them when they are broken during a windstorm.  Remove overhanging limbs from your yard to prevent them from falling on your fence. If the tree limbs are from a neighbor’s house you can ask them if you can remove the overhanging limbs so they do not fall on your fence line. Remove dead or dying trees near the fence line as they can uproot and fall over during a storm.

Remove Large Yard Objects

During a heavy windstorm large Yard objects can fly into the fence. If you know a high windstorm is coming put patio furniture, trash containers, and other objects in an enclosed area so they cannot fly into the fence. Secure other objects to prevent damage to your fence.

Check on Loose Posts

Old fences tend to have a lot of rot near the baseline and near the posts. Old fences are most susceptible to high wind storms. Remove and rebury any posts that are starting to lift out of the ground. Fix loose or damaged boards on wood fences or vinyl fences as they can break off and fly freely throughout your yard or your neighbor’s yard.

Reinforce Fences

Use reinforcements for vinyl, composite, and other fences. If you live in an area with high wind warnings, consider reinforcing your posts with wood, metal, or concrete. We provide unique fencing options as each post is dug deeply into the ground and secured with concrete.

Lock the Gate

If you know wind storms  are coming use a good lock on your gate to secure it into place. High winds will start to slam against the fence and can cause serious damage to the fence at your home. Another way to prevent damage to your gate is to take it off the hinges and secure it in a safe place until the storm passes.

Fence Repair and Insurance Claims

There are cases where insurance companies will pay for the cost of fence repair. If you have a homeowner’s warranty, contact them before working on your fence. Weather-related damage to your home is typically covered under the other structures section of your homeowners insurance policy.
