Maintaining the quality of your fence is necessary to prevent premature deterioration and fading. Although fence cleaning can be frustrating, it’s worth the hassle in order to protect your investment. Whether you have a wood fence, vinyl fence, chain link fence, or steel & aluminum fences, the following will provide cleaning and maintenance tips to help keep your fence looking it’s best for many years.
Cleaning Metal and Chain Link Fences
Cleaning chain link and metal fences can be a quick and easy job. Most of the time these types of fences can be cleaned simply by spraying it with a water hose. However, there may be some areas that need to be scrubbed in order to get them completely clean. We recommend using a bucket of mild household detergent and water. Try using a bristle brush to scrub the fence and simply rinse with water when you are finished. Be sure to rinse off the detergent entirely.
Cleaning Wood Fence
Many of our clients love the aesthetic of a wood fence, but once built, it still has to be preserved and cleaned to prevent damage and fading. By taking care of your wood fence properly, you will continue to make your home and landscape looking beautiful. We recommend power washing your wood fence by either renting a power washer or having a professional clean the fencing for you. Additionally, you will want to apply a sealer once the fence is completely dry.
Apply a sealer
Consider applying a coat of sealer all over your wood fence using a paint roller. Once the first coat dries, go back and apply a second coat using a bristle brush. Once the wood looks wet, make sure to check for any areas you might have missed. By applying a sealer, the quality of your fence will improve and last longer throughout the years.
Cleaning Vinyl Fences
Vinyl fences are a popular, easy choice for you and your home. Although vinyl fences are known for being nearly maintenance free, it’s beneficial to keep it clean of dirt and grass accumulation. Cleaning a vinyl fence is similar to cleaning a metal or chain link fence. All you need is a bucket of water, mild dish detergent, rags, and a garden hose. Make sure you thoroughly rinse the soap off to prevent film from producing.
